Daily Highlights That Bring You Joy!
As we get back into the groove of the hustle and bustle, as we get so busy with life doing the day-to-day tasks, finishing deadlines, rushing through projects and hurrying onto the next thing on the agenda, it's very easy to forget to stop and enjoy life. We go through the motions of life, leaving us with a feeling unhappy and anxious about the next Monday, dreading life overall and dragging our feet on things that matter, but for which we have lost focus.
But let's try to not repeat the last two years by taking the time to do things that we love – not only for our short-term happiness, but also for our mental and emotional well-being. Here are a few reasons why doing something that you love each day is important.
More Consistent Motivation
When you do something that you love every day in a consistent way, your motivation will improve. It can be something as simple as your morning cup of coffee, the next you get to read your new favorite, your daily meditation which can be journaling or moving your body and sweating it out. Having something to look forward to in a consistent way, especially on those days when everything is going wrong can give you a much-needed boost of motivation to help you make it through the difficult moments.
Improved Health When You Laugh
You’ve probably heard that laughter is the best medicine. Happiness and laughter offer a tremendous number of health benefits. Laughter relaxes your body, reduces stress, boosts your immune system, while leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes afterwards. So do something every day that makes you laugh, wether that be watching funny reels for a limited time, reading a funny books (we recommend this list from NPR, listening to our podcast -- The Unscripted Podcast on Apple Podcasts -- or simply going through family photos that bring back feel-good memories.
Doing something you enjoy every day helps to make you more productive. Almost like a small reward, doing something you love everyday will spur you on throughout the day, keeping you on track and working towards your attainable action-driven goals.
A New Outlook
Doing something enjoyable everyday can help to improve your outlook on life. Getting stuck in the same routine can lead to feelings of lack of purpose, frustration and despair, but breaking out of routine to do something enjoyable everyday can leave you feeling refreshed, and ready to take on the world.
Being able to take a genuine interest in others can lead to stronger relationships. When doing things that you enjoy, why not invite a friend or loved one to do the activity with you? This can be a great way to connect and will allow you to accomplish two things at once –developing relationships, while finishing things that are important to you. Even if it’s something small, and simple –like talking a 20-minute walk or spending a few minutes catching up with a friend. No matter what it is, the important thing is that it will give you something to look forward to, and will provide a much-needed break from your usual routine.
Your happiness matters. Taking ownership of your life is the first step to living life intentionally towards the life you have full capacity to design.
